Every Mama Matters
The Mama We See
Black mothers face a harsh reality in the healthcare system. Despite the joys of pregnancy and motherhood, they are disproportionately impacted by pregnancy-related complications. This disparity is particularly pronounced in cases of gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, and obstetric hemorrhage.
Our project aims to change this. We are conducting interviews with Black mothers who have experienced these conditions to capture their stories and understand their unique challenges. These interviews are not just about gathering data; they are about giving voice to experiences that are too often overlooked.
Why These Interviews Matter
These interviews will serve a dual purpose:
Capturing Vital Experiences: By listening to Black mothers, we can gather qualitative data on their experiences with gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, and obstetric hemorrhage. This data is crucial for understanding the specific barriers and biases they face in the healthcare system.
Transforming Medical Education: The insights gained from these interviews will be used to develop and improve continuing medical education for obstetric and gynecology physicians and medical staff. By incorporating real-life experiences into training programs, we can address and reduce biases, ensuring that healthcare providers are better equipped to support Black mothers.
